Nadia and Kev’s Sunny Wedding

September 6, 2007 at 10:48 am (fashion, photos)

We travelled back to England last Friday to attend the wedding of Nadia and Kev, which was on Saturday. The wedding was not until 3pm, so we had plenty of time to get ready and head over to the registry office without our car. (She was left in Turin airport, so wasn’t allowed to get dressed up in white ribbon!)

The sun was out and it was a really gorgeous day. Apparently there was a problem with the hairdresser arriving late but you would not have been able to tell. The bride (Nadia) looked absolutely stunning in a really unique wedding dress with a rustic bouquet of pink roses (which matched the roses in her hair and on her dress) and the best pair of wedding shoes I’ve seen in a long time.

The celebration was continued at The Felix Hotel and as the sun was still out the photos were taken in the garden and everyone was happy drinking champagne and relaxing.

We were privileged to be on table number two with both the brides sisters, partners and cousin. We were served lots of yummy scrummy food and it wasn’t long before the bubbles were cracked open and with the help of the wine we had a bit of a giggle. It may have been around this time that we wrote a group limerick for the bride and groom; I can’t really remember it, which is probably best because at the time I thought it was excellent, which means it was probably rubbish! (I do remember having problems rhyming words with Durham or any other place names where Nadia is from!)

The evening began with a bum-grabbing first dance! He he! Good music followed and the wedding Dj was actually very good, it’s not often djs play what you ask them to. I really enjoyed myself and from the amount of dancing I think I can say so did everyone else.

Ooh, I almost forgot to mention the cheese and crackers at the end of the evening. They were really tasty and with the unusual addition of pesto in little bowls. It made A and I feel right at home!

Not Sure About These…

July 14, 2007 at 8:32 am (fashion, Italy)

A few things that I’ve noticed about Italy that are quite different to England are:

1. Toilets – they seem to think the definition of a toilet is a hole in the ground that has two feet-shaped areas either side of it. As you can imagine, this is supposed to be squatted over! All girls will know that this is not an easy task, especially when the door doesn’t lock and you’re fighting to tear off the last two available squares of toilet roll. Haven’t been enjoying that so far!

2. Shoes – Wow! It’s almost like heaven. There are so many shoes. I know people say that Italians are well dressed, they take pride in their clothes and which labels they are wearing; those people are not wrong. It’s all about the appearance. This is all well and good but I have no idea how they strut so confidently down the narrow cobbled streets with 6 inch heels. Something I will have to master but I’m certain that this will be time well spent!

3. Parking – For all those crap parkers out there, get yourselves to Italy. If there’s an available space, the driver doesn’t see the need to reverse park into it, he/she will just go in, nose first, and leave the car’s bum sticking out! So all subsequent passing drivers have to skirt round it. And this is very common, you see it everywhere. If only we were taking my beloved micra then I too would have a play at this game. As it happens we’re taking A’s car and don’t think he’d be too happy if I came back from a shopping trip with a dent in her bottom!
