The Pool

November 18, 2008 at 1:59 pm (Uncategorized)

So, the Italian adventure is over and here we are in Liverpool. Not quite the scenery or weather that I’ve grown to love in Italy but it definitely presents the same challenges with regards to the language!

As I’m sure you all know, it is the capital of culture this year and I think it is realy trying to do lots of interesting things in the city. We are lucky enough to have a flat (although I keep wanting to call it an apartment – I haven’t lost the Italian yet!) right in the heart of the city, so we’re just a stones throw away from all the excitement. All I need now is a job and I’ll be able to do some of the things that are on offer at the moment!

How Long’s It Been??

June 17, 2008 at 3:54 pm (Uncategorized)

It seems that I’ve been extremely rubbish about posting recently; I have no excuse other than that I’ve been pretty busy and I’ve had other bits and bobs to worry about. Unfortunately this post may not relight my passion for blogging but it will serve as a recap of what’s been happening. Since the snow we’ve had some amazing sunshine and everyone was amazed ow early summer arrived. What we didn’t realise was that we weren’t going to get any more! We’ve had rain pretty much every day for the last 2 months! It’s dull, cold and dreary. So, you can imagine, I’m not feeling too excited about our coming holiday (3 weeks cycling around Italy)! I’m hoping that the rain will stop at least. Besides weather we’ve had a few more guests, expecting the next one any minute and then preparations can really start for our return to England. It’s all a bit scary and exciting but there’s far too much to do before I can even start thinking about any of that! Apart from the weather life here has been pretty good over the last few months; teaching has slowed down and we’ve been getting out and about on the bikes.

Well, that’s it for now. I’m not going to promise a whole load of photos because my laptop is so slow that I can’t be bothered at the moment. I can’t wait to get the laptop back when we get back to England. Maybe then my computery side will start to shine again!

Ski Fun

April 12, 2008 at 9:54 am (Uncategorized)

I went skiing for the first time ever two weeks ago and I absoultely loved it! It was great!  After a little look at the funds we decided to go back again last week and I’ve now accomplished the art of parallel turns, I feel very swish.  However, I can’t walk – my legs ache so much and I feel very old! Ah well, let’s hope that with more skiing the legs get better as I’m hoping to go back again. Photos to follow.

Northern Lights – the movie

July 18, 2007 at 2:00 pm (Uncategorized)

As I read on a friend’s blog, the book ‘Northern Lights’ by Philip Pullman is being released as a movie this December. My Dad suggested that I read the book a few years ago and now pretty much all the family has read it and its two sequels. I must admit that I found it a little hard to get into at the beginning (even though it is a children’s book) but I really did enjoy it. For some reason, however, I didn’t get round to reading the second and third books in the series but I now have the motivation, as I want to get them read before the film comes out.

To have a look at the trailer or to find out what daemon you have, then click on this link. For some reason they’ve changed the name of the film to ‘The Golden Compass’ but hey, that’s Americans for you!

My daemon is a gibbon! A gibbon?! I’m not sure if I’m very happy with that but the characteristics that come with it are quite nice, so I suppose I’ll just have to accept it.

If you can’t see the picture above, click here and it’ll take you to my daemon’s page.

The Day That I Was Born

July 1, 2007 at 10:00 pm (photos, Uncategorized)

23 years ago, yesterday, I was born. “Hoorah” (I hear you cry). Unfortunately, what with all the packing and general organising that’s going on around here, not much happened. It felt very strange and I think I’m getting to the age when events (such as Christmas, Easter and Birthdays) don’t have the same appeal and excitement about them as they used to, which leads to a slight feeling of disappointment when the awaited event does finally arrive. Morose sounding, I know, and I didn’t think I’d ever hear myself say it. I’m normally the person ‘bigging up’ such events and trying to rally everyone round by making them wear the mandatory Father Christmas hat or the red nose or whatever it is that’s supposed to symbolise the event, but this time it’s me being the pessimistic one. I don’t think I’ll ever not enjoy these celebrations but I am going to have to tone down the build up and nervous anticipation, as it seems to be doing more harm than good. With all that said, I did really enjoy myself in the evening of my Birthday; I ate far too much good food, drunk a little more than I should (but about the amount that’s deemed reasonable when it’s your Birthday) and discovered a cool feature on my camera. Basically, it continuously takes photos (until you tell it to stop!) in short succession, so you get some great cartoon-strip-esque moments. Could photography get any better? An example of the hilarity is below.

Alleluia!!

it's a bathroom!

It’s finished, it’s finally finished! It feels like a miracle but it’s got tiled walls, a bamboo floor, a new funky toilet seat and all the other bits and bobs you’d expect a bathroom to have! Only two weeks late but who’s counting? If you’re bored enough to want to see the photos, click here.brown!

Here’s an old photo so you can compare the difference…..

Dag nam it!

June 28, 2007 at 11:20 am (Uncategorized)

Well it turns out that when I fell off my bike not only did I break my bike helmet but also my new fancy camera! The screen is completely cracked, so you have to use the viewfinder! What’s one of those? Hmph…hoping that the insurance company will pay out and I can get a brand new one! Woo hoo! Here’s hoping!

The Bathroom Diaries – continued

June 20, 2007 at 9:00 pm (Uncategorized)

Well it turns out that I hate bathrooms and everything to do with their refurbishment so I’m axing this popular section of my blog to move to happier, less moany items! I read an article in a magazine at the weekend that says positive thinking has a huge impact on how happy we are. So, no more moaning about tiles and toilets (or lack of) for me! Oh no, it’s rainbows and sunshine from now on. (“Phew!” I hear you sigh, “I couldn’t cope with anymore dull drivel about your bathroom. I want glamour and photos of anything other than walls!”) Now all I have to do is think of something upbeat to write about! Watch this space…

The major work begins!!!

Our handy man comes round to rip out the old suit;out with the old and in with the new. The floor boards go and the bathroom is ready for its facelift! The new toilet goes back in but not much else….so it’s washing my hair in the kitchen sink tomorrow morning! Oh and I forgot to mention they’ve had to turn the hot water off so I have to boil a kettle first! Grr!
